C. Robert Keenan III has represented employers, municipalities, and insurers since 1979 in the workers' compensation and employment law arenas.
Mr. Keenan has tried cases before juries, judges, workers' compensation judges, and other administrative or arbitration forums across Pennsylvania. His clients range from small businesses and townships, up to large self-insurance pools and industrial giants.
Mr. Keenan graduated with honors from Bucknell University and went on to the University of Pittsburgh School of Law for his law degree in 1979. He has been listed in Who's Who and American Law since 1987, and has maintained an "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Keenan has served in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County (as a Special Master presiding over civil jury trials and as an arbitrator in Civil Division cases), and as an advocate or presiding officer in local agency hearings, including civil service, school district, Heart and Lung Act, and police disciplinary hearings.
Professionally, Mr. Keenan has been recognized at the local, state, and national levels. He is a past member of the Judiciary Committee of the Allegheny County Bar Association and is the Past Chair of the Real Property Section and a past Council member and current author and lecturer with the Workers' Compensation Section.
At the statewide level, Mr. Keenan belongs to the Pennsylvania Defense Institute and serves on its Workers' Compensation and Governmental Liability Committees. With the Pennsylvania Bar Association, he has chaired several committees and written regular articles in the Newsletter of the Workers' Compensation Law Section, where he presently serves as Chair of the Legislation Committee and as a member of the governing Council.
Nationally, Mr. Keenan serves on the Workers' Compensation and Governmental Liability Committees of the Defense Research Institute. He also serves on the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies. For the American Bar Association, Mr. Keenan is the Past Vice-Chair of the Governmental Liability Committee of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section, where he presently writes a regular column in the Workers' Compensation Newsletter of that Section. He is also a member and author with the ABA's State and Local Bargaining Committee.
Mr. Keenan served on the Mt. Lebanon School Board for six years, including one term as Board President. He is also a Board member (and Past Chair) of the Local Board of the Selective Service System. He is presently Treasurer of the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the Christian Legal Society, and also serves as a volunteer lawyer for Christian Legal Aid of Pittsburgh, which offers legal services to the indigent at no charge. He is an annual lecturer at the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He is a Past Trustee of the Castle Shannon Community Library and is a Past Board Member and Treasurer of the Pittsburgh Savoyards (the premier local producers of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas).
